Chile does Carmenere really well and the Las Mercedes from our Taste of South America collection, is a great example.
The vineyards are planted in Santa Rosa, 54km from the Pacific Ocean. Carmenere thrives in Chile with long hours of sunshine and ocean breezes allowing the grapes to ripen fully, bringing great fruit concentration. The Las Mercedes has soft red and black fruit aromas, with a lovely hint of black pepper and spice. The texture is soft and well balanced, and it's drinking beautifully now.

The Bouchon family has been producing wine in Chile’s famous Maule Valley for over 120 years to great acclaim. Las Mercedes is the personal wine project of brothers Julio and Juan and sister Maria. The name is taken from the 17th Century land grants (Mercedes) that were bestowed by the Spanish Crown upon hardworking entrepreneurs who went on to plant the first vines in the valley. This young family team makes wines in the pioneering spirit of those early grape growers and winemakers, and their philosophy is summarized thus: "… to dare to make wines with absolute freedom".
